Gordon Smith's Democratic friends

Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) tied himself to Barack Obama in one of his first campaign advertisements.  Then he was simpatico with John Kerry.  Last week, Ted Kennedy was featured in another ad.

And now Smith is touting his relationship with Oregon's senior senator, Democrat Ron Wyden.

The ad quotes a videotaped speech from Wyden, where he says: "Senator Smith, my friend, my partner, always meets me halfway." Smith ends the ad by saying: "I'm Gordon Smith and I approve working together along party lines — and this ad."

Of course, Wyden is on television endorsing Smith's Democratic opponent, Jeff Merkley.
