NRSC on air in Louisiana

For a while, we were wondering if the National Republican Senatorial Committee would be spending money in Louisiana – the one Senate race where the committee is targeting a sitting Democrat.

The wait is over.

The NRSC is up with an ad blasting Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) for supporting “amnesty for illegal immigrants.”

“Liberal Mary Landrieu voted to allow immigrants to collect Social Security benefits for work done illegally,” the ad says. “When it comes to illegal immigration, Mary Landrieu is on the wrong side of the fence.”

We haven’t seen too many campaign ads on illegal immigration so far this year, but the Louisiana Senate race is proving to be the exception to the pattern. Landrieu’s Republican challenger, state treasurer John Kennedy, has also been airing attack ads accusing the senator of being soft on illegal immigration.
