New Youngest Member Headed To Congress?

If he wins in November, 27 year old State Senator Aaron Schock would take over the mantle as the youngest member of Congress. A new poll conducted for his campaign suggests he's well on his way to replacing retiring Rep. Ray LaHood in Illinois.

The poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, surveyed 400 likely voters in the Eighteenth District between 8/18-20 for a margin of error of +/- 4.9%. Republican Schock, former television news reporter and Democratic nominee Colleen Callahan and college professor Sheldon Schafer, the Green Party nominee, were tested.

General Election Matchup

Schock won 72% of the primary vote against lesser-known Republican challengers after LaHood, first elected in 1994, announced his retirement.

It seems that even as Democrats are expected to have a good year in Illinois, the party still isn't playing in Peoria, around which the district is based.
