Bush fundraisers canceled

President Bush canceled two fundraisers scheduled for today to help two leading GOP Congressional candidates in Florida and Alabama to focus on the economic crisis on Wall Street.

The fundraisers were scheduled to benefit Tom Rooney, running against Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-Fla.), Jay Love, running to succeed retiring Rep. Terry Everett (R-Ala.) and Wayne Parker, running to succeed retiring Rep. Bud Cramer (D-Ala.).

Vice President Cheney is now attending the fundraisers in Bush’s place. Both fundraisers have been critical for both candidates to refill their campaign coffers after facing competitive primaries.

President Bush is still scheduled to attend a fundraiser for two New Jersey Republicans – defense contractor Chris Myers and state Assemblyman Leonard Lance – later this week.
