Raitt Makes Campaign Swing

In need of a big draw for your campaign? If so, and if you're a Democrat, call Bonnie Raitt. The singer is headlining two concerts this week benefiting Democratic candidates in New England, conducting a mini-campaign swing of her own.

Last night, the country music performer was in Portland, Maine, holding a sellout fundraiser for Democratic Rep. Tom Allen's campaign against Republican Senator Susan Collins. Today, she swings by Concord, New Hampshire to give a financial boost to former Governor Jeanne Shaheen's campaign against Republican Senator John Sununu.

The New Hampshire GOP isn't happy with Raitt's visit, and is calling on Shaheen to denounce Raitt for what it calls her "radical agenda" on Cuba and Iraq.

It's not the first time Shaheen has brought in big singers to help out her campaign. Longtime Democratic activist Carole King hit the state for a three-day tour in the middle of last month, stumping for Shaheen in Nashua, Concord, Laconia, Wolfeboro, Conway and Rochester, per the Portsmouth Herald.

By the way, if Raitt and King aren't your cup of tea and music is that important, check out each presidential candidate's top ten songs, as told to Blender Magazine.
