Lummis wins GOP primary in Wyoming

Political experience prevailed over personal wealth in tonight’s Republican primary for Wyoming’s at-large House seat.

Former state treasurer Cynthia Lummis defeated rancher Mark Gordon, who largely self-funded his campaign.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Lummis leads Gordon, 46 to 38 percent.

Lummis heads into the general election against Democratic businessman Gary Trauner as the favorite to succeed retiring Rep. Barbara Cubin (R-Wyo.).

But Democrats believe they have an outside chance at winning in this heavily Republican state, though without the controversial Cubin on the ballot, it will be a tough challenge.
