DSCC connects Smith to 'Big Oil'

One day after Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Oregon) aired an ad downplaying his Republican affiliation, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is up with a new ad tying Smith to “Big Oil.”

“The oil and gas industry has given Gordon Smith’s campaign nearly three hundred thousand dollars. The oil and gas industry has given Gordon Smith’s campaign nearly three hundred thousand dollars,” the ad says. “So when Gordon says he’s a friend of working families. The truth is his real friend is big oil.”

This is already the third ad aired by the DSCC in Oregon – and there still three months left until Election Day. The national party is chipping in because the Democratic nominee, Jeff Merkley, just emerged a costly primary with only $570,000 at the end of June. He trails Smith, who ended June with a campaign warchest of over $4 million.
