DCCC Slams Barletta

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is up with their second advertisement slamming Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, this time for what Democrats characterize as misspent pension funds during his time in office. The party, determined to save Rep. Paul Kanjorski, is putting serious money behind the ads as well.

Barletta, says the ad, diverted $1.5 million from a city pension fund, a move the state auditor said was misspending the money. President Bush makes an appearance as well, as Democrats accuse Barletta of agreeing on privatizing Social Security:

Republicans have accused Kanjorski of his own ethical improprieties, including earmarks secured that would have benefited his family, and have highlighted embarrassing statements the Democrat has made, including admitting that his party overpromised on the war in Iraq in order to win extra seats in 2006.

The race looks destined to descend into a quagmire of charges and countercharges. Perhaps Democrats' reasoning is that the devil -- or in this case, politician -- you know is better than the politician you don't.
