Davis officially concedes to Roe

Per the Knoxville News-Sentinel:

Rep. David Davis said today he will not challenge the results of last week's Republican primary that he narrowly lost to Johnson City Mayor Phil Roe.

Davis, who lost his bid for reelection by just 486 votes in the 1st Congressional District, had complained of a "well-funded and systematic effort" in which Democrats crossed over and voted for Roe in the GOP primary.

Davis, a first-term congressman, argued that violated a provision of state law that says a voter can cast a ballot in a primary only if he or she is a bona fide member of the party and declares an allegiance to the party and states an intention to affiliate with that party.

But Davis said in a statement today that he has decided not to challenge the election results "even though I have the law on my side."

"I hope that I have made the point that the rule of law matters in America and that the voting rights of both parties should be protected," Davis said.
