"Obama Goes Full Nixon,” declared an op-ed headline in the Harvard Crimson after news broke that the IRS gave extra scrutiny to conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. In Richard Nixon’s administration, an innocuously named IRS branch called the “special services staff” was directed to audit the president’s political opponents. Although there is no evidence to suggest President Obama had any personal knowledge of the most recent transgressions, a number of presidents did use the tax agency to harass political and personal adversaries.
