Scott Rigell (R-2nd District)

About: Auto dealer Scott Rigell, who served for six years in the United States Marine Corps, defeated freshman Democrat Glenn Nye last November. Rigell won spots on the Armed Services and Homeland Security committees, important positions for this military-heavy district.

Glenn Nye (D): 42.5%


Robert Hurt (R-5th District)

About: Southside Virginia elected its first freshman Republican since Reconstruction (former Representative Virgil Goode was initially elected as a Democrat). Hurt, a state senator, defeated freshman Rep. Tom Perriello in a surprisingly close race. Hurt won a seat on the Financial Services Committee.

Robert Hurt (R): 50.8%
Tom Perriello (D): 47.1%


Morgan Griffith (R-9th District)

About: Griffith, the Republican majority leader in the Virginia House of Delegates, overcame a late deficit to topple Rep. Rick Boucher. Griffith will sit on the Energy and Commerce Committee, a key appointment for this coal-producing district.

Morgan Griffith (R): 51.2%
Rick Boucher (D): 46.4%
