Freshman Class of the 112th Congress

36 / 40

Bill Flores (R-17th District)

About: Bill Flores, who knocked off conservative Democrat Chet Edwards last fall, won seats on the House Budget, Veterans' Affairs and Natural Resources committees.

Election Results:
Bill Flores (R): 61.8%
Chet Edwards (D): 36.6%

Quico Canseco (R-23rd District)

About: Quico Canseco, an attorney, banker, and real estate developer, defeated Congressman Ciro Rodriguez in this sprawling suburban San Antonio district. He will sit on the Financial Services Committee.

Election Results:
Quico Canseco (R): 49.4%
Ciro Rodriguez (D): 44.4%

Blake Farenthold (R-27th District)

About: Bad fashion sense didn't derail Farenthold's bid to upset 28-year incumbent Congressman Solomon Ortiz. Despite photos surfacing showing Farenthold in blue pajamas festooned with yellow ducks and clutching a scantily clad blonde at a party, Farenthold became the first Republican ever elected to this 71 percent Hispanic district. Farenthold, a conservative talk radio show co-host (whose grandmother was nearly George McGovern's running mate in 1972), will face a tough battle for re-election. He will serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Election Results:
Blake Farenthold (R): 47.9%
Solomon Ortiz (D): 47.1%
