The 8th Congressional District is Bucks County, a combination of rural, suburban, and industrialized communities located to the northeast of Philadelphia and Montgomery County. It is also the location of Pennsylvania's Levittown, successor to the original planned community in Nassau County, N.Y. This is marginal territory, although Republicans tend to do better at the local level.
Mike Fitzpatrick won here in 2004, but was dragged under in the 2006 Democratic wave, losing to Patrick Murphy by less than 1,000 votes. Fitzpatrick was back in 2010, and defeated Murphy by a comfortable margin. His opponent this time is attorney Kathy Boockvar, whom Democrats were excited about early in the cycle but who has struggled to gain traction. Still, President Obama should do well here, and Boockvar could close the gap.
