Race Analysis

It's difficult to say much about the geographic messes that are suburban Philadelphia districts.  This one shed much of Montgomery County, which trended heavily Democratic in the '00s, and instead winds its way through Republican areas of Chester and Berks counties.  Jim Gerlach represents the 6th and has to be relieved that he is now in a district with a Republican PVI after four tough races in a Democratic-leaning area.

Gerlach faces off against 2010 nominee Manan Trivedi, who held Gerlach to 57 percent of the vote in a good Republican year.  But the 6th is probably too Republican now to take down a moderate like Gerlach in anything but a wave year.
