10/27/10 -- This is a heavily Democratic, African American district, although the actual electorate is much less so. Bennie Thompson won it in a 1993 special election, but has actually had some close calls in his career where he fell below 60 percent of the vote. His opponent, Bill Marcy, has produced some polling purporting to show him within the error margin of Thompson. But make no mistake, it would be a major upset for Thompson to lose.
