Craig Robinson, brother of first lady Michelle Obama, has been fired from his position as head coach of Oregon State’s basketball team.

“I want to thank Coach Robinson and his family for their contributions to Oregon State University," said OSU Athletic Director Bob De Carolis. “This was a difficult decision, but after further evaluation, I believe it is in the best interests of our student-athletes, our basketball program and our University.”

Robinson compiled a 94-105 record over six seasons as head coach, and an even 16-16 record last season. The team failed to qualify for the NCAA tournament during his tenure. However, he will receive a $4 million contract buyout, as there were three years remaining on his contract.

Oregon State hired Robinson in 2008, the same year he was drawing national attention for his brother-in-law’s presidential campaign. Robinson introduced his sister at the 2008 Democratic National Convention and was present at Obama’s victory speech in Chicago.
