Ted Cruz to Visit New Hampshire

By Scott Conroy - July 16, 2013

Continuing to boost speculation that he will run for president in 2016, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has scheduled a trip to the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire later this summer.

The freshman lawmaker will be the keynote speaker at a fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican State Committee on Aug. 23 in the town of Dublin, according to the state GOP.

"Senator Ted Cruz is one of the most principled and exciting new leaders in the Republican Party. During his short time in the Senate he has already established himself as a leader in the fight to rein in President Obama's liberal agenda and return fiscal responsibility to Washington," New Hampshire GOP Chair Jennifer Horn said in a statement. "We are excited to welcome Senator Cruz to New Hampshire and hear about his vision for the future of our country."

Cruz’s Tea Party credentials and hard-line approach in the Senate have won him accolades among rank-and-file conservatives in the early-voting states.

Along with fellow freshman Sen. Rand Paul, Cruz has been particularly aggressive among the potential 2016 Republican candidates in exploring a presidential run more than two years until the primaries and caucuses get underway.

Cruz visited South Carolina in May and is expected to add trips to other early voting states in the coming months.
