McMahon Leads Murphy in New Connecticut Poll

McMahon Leads Murphy in New Connecticut Poll

By Kyle Adams - August 28, 2012

Former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon holds a three-point lead over Rep. Chris Murphy in the race for retiring Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman's seat.

McMahon has 49 percent support to Murphy's 46 percent among likely voters in the state, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University. Since locking up the Republican nomination with a lopsided win over former Rep. Chris Shays earlier this month, McMahon has edged Murphy in two polls. Murphy still holds a slim 0.6 percent advantage in the RCP Average.

This is McMahon's second consecutive run for Senate. In 2010, she lost to then-Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.

Meanwhile, in the presidential race, President Obama leads Mitt Romney, 52 percent to 45 percent, in the Constitution State. Obama beat Sen. John McCain there by more than 22 points in 2008.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,472 likely voters from August 22-26. The poll has a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points.
