DNC Raising Money off of GOP "Obstructionism"

Just a month after a drubbing in the midterm elections, the Democratic National Committee is back to blasting Republicans for obstructionism in the lame-duck session.

Mitch Stewart, the director of President Obama's continuing campaign, Organizing for America, is sending around a fundraising appeal today asking for funds to ward off the Republicans.

"Among other critical items, our agenda includes extending tax cuts for the middle class, repealing ‘Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' making sure those who are out of work get the relief they need, passing the DREAM Act, and ratifying the New START Treaty -- a nuclear arms agreement critical to national security," the e-mail reads.

It continues, "Organizing for America is waging a campaign to make sure Congress takes action on these critical priorities before the end of the year -- but we need your help. We're counting on 131 donations from Washington to get the job done." It goes on to ask for a $5 donation to assist the DNC in fighting obstructionism.

The pitch continues by noting that every American president since Ronald Reagan has renewed or supported, and pushes middle-class tax cuts and unemployment benefits in greater detail.

Recent fundraising reports show that the DNC has millions of dollars of debt following the midterm elections, and solicitations like these will help the committee draw in funds immediately as it attempts to pay down that debt and pivot into the 2012 presidential race.
