De Blasio Must Admit Mistakes to Fix Divide

On the first Sunday of a new year, at the Aievoli Funeral Home in Bensonhurst, it should all have been a hymn to the life of Officer Wenjian Liu, who died in Brooklyn two weeks ago as he was just beginning to live out, fully, the life in his city that he had imagined for himself.

 

Liu would never have thought of himself as royalty of his city. He was. He came here with his family from China when he was 12, attended public schools here, had a good job with the NYPD. He had a new wife and dreams about children of his own who would grow up in New York with their own dreams.
