To Win Latinos, GOP Must Pass Immigration Reform

Sometimes it looks as if Republicans want to attract Latinos. The G.O.P. post-mortem on the 2012 election recognized the need to “embrace and champion immigration reform.” Reaching out to Latino voters was highlighted in the party’s Growth and Opportunity Project report as essential to the party’s long-term sustainability. With good reason: Only 27 percent of Latinos voted for Mitt Romney in 2012, down four points from the 31 percent supporting John McCain in 2008.
