A Platinum Public Pension After 3 Years?

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's nomination last week of prominent New Haven lawyer Anthony Avallone as a Superior Court judge has raised questions in some quarters about judicial pension eligibility.

 

Mr. Avallone, a former state senator and longtime member of the Democratic National Committee, will turn 67 in December. Under state law, Superior Court judges who reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 can receive a full pension equal to two-thirds of their salary — regardless of how long they serve on the bench.
