Britain Should Vote & Prepare for the Worst

Tomorrow marks the start of the real campaign. The battle for the next election will begin within hours of the first constituencies being declared tomorrow night. Assuming the polls are anywhere near accurate, no party will win a decisive majority in tomorrow’s election. And that must imply one of two outcomes.

The most probable is a Conservative government that garners just over one third of the nation’s votes and has only a minority of parliamentary seats — or a tiny majority at most. Whether the Tories have a small majority or mere plurality will not make much difference, since in either case the government will have no convincing mandate and will be teetering constantly on the brink of collapse, just holding on for the opportunity to call another election within a year or so.
