Democrats Demand Specifics on Guantanamo Closing

By Politico, Politico - May 6, 2009

The Guantanamo prison closure effort is quickly unraveling for President Barack Obama, and all his problems are coming from Democrats. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is now demanding specifics on where the prisoners will go and what will be done with them. Reid's concerns, laid out Tuesday afternoon at a news conference, come a day after House appropriators yanked $81 million requested to help close the facility in Cuba. "I agree it would be better if we had specifics," Reid told reporters Tuesday. "The decision will be made in the next few days as whether we follow what the House does or wait for the full committee to act and do it on the floor." Reid said he will meet with Senate Appropriations Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) to discuss the Guantanamo funding. "I will have some work to do before the bill is marked up next week, and the decision will be made whether we keep it in or take it out," Reid said. Republicans, meanwhile, pounced on the Democratic disagreements, announcing Tuesday that they would be introducing a bill in the next few days ensuring that prisoners would not be released in the U.S. mainland. "The issue is what will be done with these prisoners," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

WOW! i'm just freakin' floored by this nugget. did any one seriously think that congress would put their careerist mentality aside for a moment? the "not in my constiuents backyard" mentality prevails yet again. i love the job president obama is doing- hell, just the fact he holds himself accountable to his campaign pledges and to the people of this country is way more than a breath of fresh air. but, if he thought for a moment he was going to single handedly change the culture of congress; my brother you are sadly mistaken.

Of course we need to know the specifics. Where are these folks going to be placed?

"I agree it would be better if we had specifics," Reid told reporters

Specifics? Harry, Harry, Harry, where's your "faith"?

Too bad the electorate didn't demand "specifics" beore they elected this knothead.

Too funny, another campaign lie unraveling. A special shout out to the genius liberal voters who thought this neophyte would keep even 10% of the b@llsh@t promises he laid out. Nice work. Yes we can!

Don't be ridiculous, Harry! They are going to be brought to prisons in the United States, where they will immediately be paroled into our neighborhoods based on habeas petitions filed by ACLU and their helper law firms. Since they will be unemployed and, due to unfortunate anti-terrorist bias, unable to find work, they will be put on welfare (which no longer requires work after the porkulus bill). They will use the welfare checks to build bombs and blow up our cities. But hey, that's the price of winning social approval from French communists and Spanish judges! Goooobama!

Obama made the idiotic mistake. Any elementary school student knows you don't close the prision before you know what you're going to do with the prisioners. The Obama administration is Jimmy Carter's second term.
