How Religion, Education Background Matter

Gallup polled Americans on their religious intensity and education to see how that correlated with the presidential candidate support.

McCain does well with white Christians and Jewish voters who say that religion is important to them on a daily basis. Obama does well with African Americans and Hispanics regardless of their religious intensity.


Obama is doing better with voters with lower levels of education. In March he trailed McCain by seven points among voters with a high school degree or less. In June's data, the two candidates were tied.
