MO GOP Senate Nominee: "Legitimate Rape" Victims Don't Get Pregnant
Rep. Todd Akin, Republican nominee for Missouri's U.S. Senate race this fall: “First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.â€
“Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child," Akin said in an interview this Sunday on KTVI-TV.
Akin has served six terms in the U.S. Congress and has said he's Missouri's most conservative congressman. He's running against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
