Maher's "Real Time" Panelists Spar Over Brewer-Obama Altercation, Immigration
On tonight's broadcast of "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), libertarian commentator Kennedy and, to a lesser extent, MSNBC host Martin Bashir had a lively argument over the confrontation between President Obama and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer that took place earlier this week.
Bashir contended that Brewer was trying to "appeal to certain elements" (read: racist) in the Republican Party when she wrote in her book that Obama was "condescending" toward her.
Interestingly, Kennedy thought that Obama may have exhibited a sexist attitude in his very public dispute with Gov. Brewer.
Maher jumped in and at first seemed to side to with Kennedy's view on the incident. "I agree, that could possibly be the case. Some people remember things differently a year later."
However, he quickly went back to his normal ways and quipped "it's very hard not to be condescending when you're explaining something to an idiot."
The discussion about the fracas that took place between Brewer and Obama eventually turned into another argument, this time on illegal immigration and the impact it has on the United States. Again, this subject was a lively debate and at times it seemed like the show was about to spin out of control.
