Matthews: Romney Not Self-Made, Went To Harvard And Had Connections
On his Sunday morning program Chris Matthews grouped Mitt Romney in with those who don't "deserve" their wealth because "his old man looked out for him" and "he had connections."
Matthews said "people like Steve Jobs, [Steven] Spielberg, and [Lee] Iacocca" and others like them "deserved their wealth" because "they went out and swung that pick and may have failed, but they succeeded."
It was just last month when Chris Matthews went on a similar rant. However, this time, he was defending President Obama from accusations that he went to Harvard due to entitlements. Matthews said Obama "busted his bump to get scholarship after scholarship" to work his way to Harvard and eventually to "head" of the Harvard Law Review. Yet, according to Matthews, Romney had everything handed to him. Transcript below.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: We live in a unique time when people talk about being part of the 99% -- there's a lot of sort of French Revolution talk in the air. Here's what I've discovered. It seems to me you have two ways of looking at wealthy people. Some of us, most of us look at people like Steve Jobs, Spielberg, Iacocca, name brands, Gates. Self-made people who deserved their wealth because they went out and swung that pick and may have failed, but they succeeded.
And there's other people always looking at it this way. 'Oh he had a break. He went to Harvard, the Business School.' His old man looked out for him, he had these connections and of course he's working for Bain. How did he get that job?
