Brit Hume: Moderates Like Romney Are Outsiders In Republican Party
Brit Hume on Newt Gingrich considering a move where he teams up with Santorum against Romney: "That really doesn’t make any sense. What Newt Gingrich needs to do is be where Rick Santorum is, to hold that position in the race, to be the leader of the non-Romney candidates."
"This has been one of the most peculiar bits of conventional wisdom of this whole year which is that the moderates are the establishment and the Republican Party, Brit Hume said about the idea that the establishment is made up of moderates such as Mitt Romney and John McCain.
“The Republican Party has been dominated by the conservative wing for several decades. If you look at a man like John McCain, he was a renegade. He was constantly at odds with his party, with his party leadership, and so on. The moderates are the outsiders in the Republican Party, not conservatives," Hume said.
Hume ridiculed Gingrich and Santorum for "posing" as outsiders.
