Santorum: GOP Voters Shouldn't Settle For Moderate Romney
Rick Santorum discusses the Iowa GOP race with Steve Malzberg on KTSA Radio in San Antonio. He says that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who campaigned with Mitt Romney in Iowa on Friday, is "not a conservative Republican."
"That's the kind of folks that Mitt Romney's attracting, and that's why he's bringing him out here. He's trying to get the establishment Republicans. I'm perfectly happy he's continuing to go after the establishment Republicans. We're going to go after where the bulk of the Republicans are, not just in Iowa but across the country, which are real conservatives, Reagan conservatives. This is a race that I've likened very much to the 1980 race where all the pundits and all the establishment was saying, 'You've got to be for the more moderate candidate. We've got to beat Carter, and Reagan's too much of a risk.' My feeling is that the people of Iowa, the people of this country should not settle for something that's not good enough to change America as much as America needs to be changed with respect to the size and scale of government in Washington D.C. and projecting a strong presence around the world to keep us safe. And I would make the argument that Mitt Romney isn't strong enough compared to what I would do. Now, he's clearly better than Barack Obama, by leaps and bounds, but we need something even stronger, and that's what I bring, bold colors, not pale pastels."
