Attorney For Accuser: Herman Cain Is Lying
Joel P. Bennet, the attorney for one of the women who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment, made the rounds on cable television last night and on the morning shows today. Bennet said Cain has not been telling the truth about the incident In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Tuesday night.
"She's been very upset about this since the story broke last Sunday, because Mr. Cain has been giving the impression she came out and made false allegations," Bennett said on CNN last night.
Bennet explicitly accused Cain of lying when the presidential hopeful denied he sexually harassed the two accusers during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association.
"Because there were two women that filed complaints at this time — and it’s unclear which one he is speaking about all the time — but to the extent he’s made statements that he never sexually harassed anyone, and there was no validity to these complaints, that’s certainly not true with respect to my client’s complaints," Bennett said.
Bennet says his client is contemplating coming out to tell her side of the story, but she is binder by a confidentially agreement after settling with the National Restaurant Association for a reported five figure sum.
"Naturally, she’s been very upset about this since the story broke last Sunday, because Mr. Cain has been giving the impression she came out and made false allegations," Bennet said on "Anderson Cooper 360." "That’s certainly not true, and she’s still deciding once we hear from the Restaurant Association what she’ll do, if they’ll waive the confidentiality. Until they do that, she’s not going to speak out."
