Gingrich: Obama May Face Primary Challenger
"If we end up with two or three more economic shocks, for example if Greece goes bankrupt or the Euro starts decaying, or if the Middle East begins to get much more difficult and you start having real problems with the price of oil, I think it would not take much for some very senior Democrats to say, you know, we are prepared to mount a campaign and field a candidate against you," presidential candidate Newt Gingrich told Laura Ingraham on her radio program.
"When Gene McCarthy started running against Lyndon Johnson it was unthinkable that Johnson could be driven out of the race, but the very existence of a serious opponent began to just chew up his presidency, and if somebody has the courage to get up and say 'Barack Obama is a nice guy but he can’t do the job, and I’m going to represent the Democratic Party,' that person might be shocked at how rapidly they start developing momentum. Just based on pure competency you now have a president who's so ineffective it's frightening."
