The Financial Times' Take
From Friday:
For Mr Obama, choosing Hillary Clinton could heal the divisions caused by their nomination battle. But she is too large a figure for this traditionally powerless role and would undermine his claims to be making a break with the past. Mr McCain's decision could make a real difference to his chances of victory. His age makes it important his running mate is considered capable of becoming commander-in-chief at a heartbeat's notice. Economic expertise, a self-declared McCain weakness, would be useful too. And both men should make sure they choose someone who can spell potato.
Oh, no, they didn't!
