Today on Fox and Friends Mike Huckabee remarked on an Obama/Hagel ticket: "I don't see it." Count me in total agreement with Huckabee.

The Obama people have played the media very well by inviting Hagel on the senator's Mid-east trip because it gets everyone talking about the prospect of a "unity" ticket, which is the kind of coverage they want right now. Obama has taken a hit recently for moving to the center, but it's accomplished exactly what the campaign intended: Obama is taking criticism for breaking with his party's activists. Teasing Hagel adds to that image, but it won't be more than teasing.

That's because while Obama is willing to bend the loyalty of his activist blogger base, he's not willing to break it. Choosing a Republican -- no matter who it is -- would likely break it.
