The consensus is that Clark is pushing hard to be McCain's No. 2. But things like this certainly don't help his chances. While a nominee wants to outsource the flamethrowing to the running mate, there are some attacks that don't help a campaign. Whatever the validity of Clark's comments, impugning McCain's military experience is not the sort of debate Obama wants to get into. The debate Obama would rather have is about judgment. But one can have that debate without getting into the weeds of whether getting shot down constitutes military experience.
