Fla. Army National Guard bus crashes, 19 hurt

The Associated Press

Nineteen members of the Florida Army National Guard have been injured when the bus they were riding in overturned at a training center.

National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Ron Tittle says 30 soldiers were on the bus when it crashed Tuesday afternoon at Camp Blanding in north Florida. One soldier was taken by helicopter to a hospital while others were treated at the scene or at local hospitals.

A preliminary report by military officials says four buses were traveling together when the soldier driving the second bus swerved to avoid a collision with the lead bus and overturned.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The hurt soldiers were members of the 690th Military Police Company, based in Crystal River on the central Gulf coast of Florida.
