Dog who bit LA firefighter freed from quarantine

Four-year-old Spikey was turned over Tuesday to Maria Medina and her family in front of the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority in Los Angeles. Officers muzzled the dog for the ceremony.
The dog was under a 10-day quarantine to check for rabies after biting the firefighter who swooped down from a helicopter to save him on Jan. 22.
Spikey and his dog friend Polo got out of Medina's yard earlier that day. Spikey was rescued from the rain-swollen Los Angeles River and Polo was caught on a bridge.
Injured firefighter Joe St. Georges fractured his thumb and lost a nail.
