The FBI says an airline passenger who caused a jetliner to be diverted to Maine claimed he had dynamite in his boots and in his laptop computer.
An affidavit filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday indicates 26-year-old Derek Stansberry, of Riverview, Fla., first aroused the attention of air marshals with a note claiming his passport was a fake. He later said he had dynamite in boots stashed in his backpack and in his laptop. He also indicated he had taken a sleeping aid.
A search of the Airbus A330 indicated there were no explosives. Stansberry remains in custody, charged with false information and threats, and interfering with a flight crew.
There were 235 passengers and 13 crew members on Delta Air Lines Flight 273 from Paris to Atlanta when it was diverted to Bangor International Airport on Tuesday.
