Decision on SC governor expected from ethics panel
The Associated PressA hearing is set for South Carolina's Ethics Commission to decide whether the state's embattled governor should be prosecuted over his travels.
The meeting Wednesday is the culmination of a three-month investigation into Gov. Mark Sanford. The commission is expected to decide whether Sanford should face criminal or civil charges, or no sanctions at all.
Commission general counsel Cathy Hazelwood says Sanford's hearing is closed. She says the commission will likely release a brief statement indicating whether it determined there was evidence of wrongdoing, with more details in later days.
Scrutiny of Sanford began after he returned from a five-day rendezvous with an Argentine lover in June.
