Rand Paul: Primary now between Ron Paul, Romney

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul visited western Kentucky for a town hall on Wednesday, a day after his father was runner-up in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary.

Paul, a Republican from Bowling Green, said he has been impressed by the campaign of his father, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, and said he believes the Republican presidential race is now between his dad and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

"They're the only two candidates that have a nationwide network, the only two candidates that have enough money," he said.

About 200 people filled a meeting room for the town hall at the CFSB Center on Murray State University's campus Wednesday. Paul, who is scheduled to visit Louisville on Thursday to make an announcement, says his father has strong independent support that would make him a tough candidate in the fall.

"If you can't appeal to people who have another registration, you can't win," he said.

Paul talked about the need for Democrats and Republicans to work together in Congress and addressed questions about federal, state and local issues.
