Djou doesn't have plans to run for US Senate

The Associated Press

Former U.S. Rep. Charles Djou says he's waiting to see whether former Gov. Linda Lingle runs for U.S. Senate next year before deciding whether he will seek the Republican nomination.

Djou told the Conservative Forum for Hawaii this weekend that he supports Lingle, and he said she would make a strong successor to Democratic Sen. Daniel Akaka, who announced this month he won't seek re-election.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported Monday that Djou isn't currently considering running for any specific office next year, but he hasn't ruled out a political bid.

Djou served in the U.S. House of Representatives for seven months in 2010 after winning a special election to succeed Democrat Neil Abercrombie, who resigned to run for governor.

Djou lost the general election to Democratic U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa.
