ELECTIONS CHIEF CHARGED-HEARING

INDIANAPOLIS _ Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White says he finds it `tragic' that he could lose his elected office and go to jail because of a complicated personal life he said led to a year in which he effectively had no home. White told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview that he spent much of the year starting in May 2009 routinely staying at his ex-wife's home in Fishers and effectively living out of his car as he campaigned across the state for the job as the state's top elections official. White's residency _ and eligibility to run for election _ are the focus of two legal actions that could force him out of office and even land him behind bars. The Indiana Recount Commission will hold a hearing Tuesday to determine whether White committed voter fraud by voting in the May 2010 primary while registered at his ex-wife's address.

ACLU-IMMIGRATION LAW

INDIANAPOLIS _ A federal judge grilled an attorney for the state of Indiana on Monday about the state's new immigration law, questioning how police would enforce the law and saying one of its provisions conflicts with federal law. U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker heard 90 minutes of oral arguments on civil rights groups' request for a preliminary injunction blocking contested portions of the law. Barker said she would rule before the law passed by legislators in April takes effect July 1.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD-INDIANA

INDIANAPOLIS _ Planned Parenthood of Indiana is no longer seeing Medicaid patients because a federal judge hasn't ruled yet on its attempt to block a new Indiana law cutting funding for certain abortion providers, officials said Monday. Planned Parenthood _ which provides breast exams, Pap tests, birth control and other health services to thousands of low-income women _ has been relying on private donations to fund care for Medicaid clients since the law passed, but said it doesn't have enough donations to continue doing so.

ISRAEL-CONVICTED SPY

MISHAWAKA _ A former U.S. Navy intelligence analyst convicted of spying for Israel did not attend his father's funeral in Indiana on Monday, despite requests from numerous Israeli officials that he be allowed out of prison to pay his respects. The White House also had spurned Israeli appeals to let Jonathan Pollard visit his father before he died Saturday at the age of 95.

MISSING INDIANA STUDENT

BLOOMINGTON _ The investigation into the disappearance of an Indiana college student more than two weeks ago yielded no visible results Monday as police confirmed that a truck seen in the area near the time of the coed's disappearance was not connected to the case. Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters said Monday that investigators received more than 500 tips after releasing images from security cameras last week showing a white truck passing through the downtown area in which Lauren Spierer was last seen early June 3 after a night of partying with friends.
