Known for his outgoing nature, biting wit and adherence to originalism, Antonin Scalia is the first Italian-American to serve on the Supreme Court. President Reagan, after appointing the first woman to the court, was fond of the idea of appointing the first Italian as well. Scalia was approved 98-0 by the Senate in 1986 at the age of 50, after serving on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals for four years.
