With Tax Day just having passed, the money we pay to Uncle Sam is on everyone's mind. But beyond the W-2s and 1040s we slave away filing once a year, states are looking to increase revenue to cover the budget gaps that many of them are currently facing. From New York Governor David Paterson's proposed "Obesity Tax" late last year, to Delaware Governor Jack Markell's bid to legalize sports gambling, state politicians have recently been putting forth some unorthodox suggestions. As it stands currently, though, the 50 states have "sin taxes" in place on products that many Americans enjoy every day, some much higher than others.
