10/27/10 -- Gene Taylor won this district in a 1989 special election, and has held on handily ever since. He can legitimately claim to be the most conservative Democrat in the House, and even failed to back the party's speaker nominees in the 1990s. But the polling this year shows him to be in a close race, and his vote for Nancy Pelosi may be his undoing.
