RCP Senate Ranking: Toss Up
Presidential Race: Obama (D) vs. McCain (R)
Competitive House Races: MI-7 | MI-9
Key 2006 State Races: Senate | Governor
2004 President: Kerry (D) vs. Bush (R)
In 2006, Tim Walberg knocked off moderate Republican Rep. Joe Schwarz in the GOP primary, thanks to help from the Club for Growth. Walberg went on to defeat Sharon Renier (D) by just 4 points despite outspending her more than twenty to one. That’s a luxury he won’t have this year against state Senate Minority Leader Mark Schauer (D), who so far has outraised the Republican.
House
2006: Walberg (R) 50, Renier (D) 46
2004: Schwarz (R) 58, Renier (D) 36
2002: Smith (R) 60, Simpson (D) 39
President
2004: Bush (R) 54, Kerry (D) 45
2000: Bush (R) 51, Gore (D) 46
