State Sen. Andrew Harris defeated Rep. Wayne Gilchrest 43%-33% in the Feb. 12 GOP primary. Gilchrest, a moderate Republican, had been seeking a 10th term in office. In doing so, the more conservative Harris could have given Democrats a chance here. Queen Anne County State's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D) faces an uphill battle, but he has support from Gilchrest, which could help him make the seat competitive.
