Jon Huntsman, running for his second term as governor, is heavily favored to retain his seat. Huntsman is the son of a billionaire philanthropist and has served in the administrations of the last three Republican presidents. Huntsman was an early supporter of John McCain's presidential candidacy.
With the landslide 1964 election the lone exception, Utah has voted Republican in 13 of the last 14 presidential elections.
