Former Rep. Jill Long Thompson faces an uphill battle against incumbent Gov. Mitch Daniels. Long Thompson faced an expensive and competitive primary, defeating Indianapolis architect Jim Schellinger by less than a point.
Daniels opened the general election campaign with a 10-1 cash advantage and favorable approval ratings, though not as high as some other governors running for re-election. Long Thompson has been endorsed by several labor unions, as well as EMILY's List, both of which should provide her with support.
Long Thompson served in Congress from a 1989 special election victory until losing a third bid for re-election in 1994. Most recently, Long Thompson lost a 2002 open House seat race to Chris Chocola.
