Imagine that your two best friends are British and Canadian tobacco addicts. The Brit battles lung cancer. The Canadian endures emphysema and wheezes as he walks around with clanging oxygen canisters. You probably would not think: "Maybe I should pick up smoking."

The fact that America is even considering government medicine is equally wacky. The state guides health care for our two closest allies: Great Britain and Canada. Like us, these are prosperous, industrial, Anglophone democracies. Nevertheless, compared to America, they suffer higher death rates for diseases, their patients experience severe pain, and they ration medical services.

‘We're out of money," President Obama admitted. "We're operating in deep deficits," he said in a May 23 C-SPAN interview.

While Obama is refreshingly realistic, he resembles a man who strolls into a bar, sees that his wallet is empty, then slaps a round of drinks for everyone onto his wheezing credit card.

Rather than use America's rapidly deteriorating public finances to restore fiscal discipline after G. W. Bush's deplorable spend-o-rama, Obama is digging America into a deeper hole - not with a shovel, but with a backhoe. If he continues, the ensuing canyon walls will collapse and crush us.

Look how spectacularly Washington squanders your money:

Today, Library Tower looms 73 stories above Los Angeles. But the Pacific Coast's highest skyscraper might have become a smoldering pile of steel beams had CIA interrogators not waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM) 183 times in March 2003, as recently released memoranda reveal. Americans should be proud that our public servants had the patience and persistence to pressure al-Qaeda's self-described military chief until he cracked, ratted on his homicidal conspirators, and thus prevented a bloody attack that could have murdered thousands of innocent people.

The hardcore hand-wringing among soft-headed liberals over the so-called "torture memos" ignores the fact that these...

These 1,714 children -- 90 percent black and 9 percent Hispanic -- enjoy the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program. They each receive up to $7,500 for private or parochial schools outside Washington, D.C.'s dismal government-education system. Since its 2004 launch, 7,852 students have applied for these grants, or more than four children per voucher.

This program's popularity notwithstanding, Obama stayed silent as Congress scheduled this initiative's demise after the 2009 -- 2010 academic year. Both a Democratic Congress and DC authorities must reauthorize the program -- not likely.

Now it emerges that Obama's Department of Education (DOE) possessed peer-reviewed,...

Question: Will Obama's erudition and elegance finally eclipse the corrosive, often deadly scourge of hip-hop culture and the ghetto mentality that gnaw away like termites beneath black America's floorboards?

Until at least 2013, the whole world will watch a debonair black man whose studiousness and diligence transported him from a broken home to the world's most famous house. He will share it with Michelle Obama, his wife of 16 years. Just like her husband, the first lady avoided the 50-percent black high-school dropout rate, graduated from an Ivy League university and earned a Harvard law degree.

Well, it worked. America is awash in affordable housing. Home prices in 20 major cities plunged 16.6 percent last quarter. That's bad news if you're selling, but a bonanza for those seeking affordable housing.

So, rather than declare "mission accomplished," Uncle Sam has cannon-balled into the mortgage markets to jack up housing prices.

Which is it?

Last September 24, G.W. Bush claimed the $700 billion bailout would relieve distressed banks of "troubled assets that are clogging the financial system." But just seconds later, Bush continued: "...the value of many of these assets will likely be higher than their current price, because the vast majority of Americans will...

Comrade George W. Bush has spearheaded the most aggressive federal expansion since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. As a delivery system for socialism, he has been the most effective Trojan Horse since that pine steed rolled into Troy.

When Bush arrived, Washington consumed 18.4 percent of Gross Domestic Product. Uncle Sam now devours 22.5 percent of the economy, reported Jon Ward in the October 19 Washington Times. "The country has gone from a $128 billion budget surplus when Mr. Bush took office to a deficit of at least $732 billion in fiscal 2009," Ward writes. "No president since FDR -- who offered a New Deal to pull the nation out of the Great Depression and then fought World War II...

Not so.

Thanks to brave U.S. GIs and valiant Iraqi soldiers, cops, and volunteers, Iraq is increasingly tranquil. American fatalities have plummeted from 66 in July 2007 to five last month.

"By and large, what's left of the insurgency is just trying to hang on," U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker told the Associated Press...
